2. Do I need any prior martial arts experience to join?

No prior experience is necessary. Our classes cater to all skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced practitioners. Our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and help you progress at your own pace.

3. What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, comfortable athletic clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts or sweatpants is fine. We provide gis (uniforms) for new members, and our instructors will help you get properly outfitted for future classes.  

4. Is BJJ safe?

Safety is our top priority. We have strict safety protocols and a culture of respect and responsibility in place to ensure all students train in a safe environment. Our instructors are experienced in teaching proper techniques and ensuring that everyone trains safely.

5. What age groups do you cater to?

We offer programs for both children and adults. Our Kids BJJ program is open to children aged 6 to 13 years old, while our adult classes cater to individuals of all ages and skill levels. We believe BJJ can be beneficial for everyone, regardless of age.

6. How often should I train to see progress?

Consistency is key in BJJ. Our curriculum is designed for you to see great progress by training at least 2-3 times a week. Our flexible class schedule allows you to find a routine that fits your lifestyle, helping you stay committed and motivated.

7. Do you offer trial classes?

Yes, we offer a free consultation and class for new students. This gives you the opportunity to experience our training environment, meet our instructors, and see if our academy, systems and environment is the right fit for you.

13. Can I participate in competitions?

Yes, our academy participates in both local and national tournaments. Competing is a great way to test your skills and gain valuable experience. Our instructors will support and guide you through the competition process.  

14. How do you communicate with students about classes and events?

We communicate through in-class announcements, text messages, social media, and email. We aim to standardize communication via email to ensure everyone stays informed about classes, events, and updates.

15. What if I face challenges or feel discouraged?

It’s normal to face challenges in BJJ, but our supportive community and experienced instructors are here to help. We emphasize mental resilience and personal growth, encouraging you to push through difficulties and achieve your goals. We also offer smaller group sessions to support you staying motivated and inspired.
